6. Samuel Honzek, LW

Back in 2023, Samuel Honzek was the Flames first-round pick, and while there was backlash at the time, given his size and his skillset, it's easy to see why the organization believed in him as a potential middle-six forward in the NHL. Sure, a team shouldn't be picking in the first-round for middle-six potential, but that's what the Flames did, and early in 2025/26, he showed some very good production in the NHL.

In 18 games played, Honzek had 2 goals and 4 points, and while those numbers don't jump off the page, he seemed to find his footing while having some bad luck before the injury bug struck again. Since his rookie campaign, Honzek has reportedly gained plenty of muscle, and if he can get through a full campaign healthy, there's a good chance we see the very best of the still 21-year-old moving forward.

5. Cullen Potter, C/LW

Last season, the excitement for Calgary's prospect group mainly came from the duo of Cole Reschny and Ethan Wyttenbach, and that led to many overlooking their second first-round pick Cullen Potter. He played at a non-traditional hockey school at Arizona State, but despite struggles early on, Potter quickly found his groove, posting 12 goals and 26 points in just 24 games played.

Unfortunately, the games played tally was so low because he ended up with a season ending injury just as he was getting started, but now, he's got a chance to break out as he transfers to Michigan State for the 2026/27 season. While Potter is just 5-foot-10, he has elite level speed that make him a genuine threat all over the ice, and even though he projects as a winger, rather than a centre at the next level, he could be a star for the Flames for a long, long time.
