Several Calgary Flames Prospect Named Among the NHL's Best in Recent List

The Calgary Flames future is looking very, very bright, and while the team are yet to acquire the star that they can hitch their wagon to for the next decade, the building blocks are quickly being put in place by General Manager Craig Conroy.

This season, we'll get the opportunity to see several of them, with Zayne Parekh, Simon Nemec, Matvei Gridin and Hunter Brzustewicz all likely getting the opportunity for key roles in 2026/27 and moving forward.

While the team don't yet have that No. 1, they've got plenty of talent throughout the organization, and recently, the prospect pool was ranked No. 3 in the National Hockey League by Steven Ellis at Daily Faceoff. Now, DFO have taken another look at NHL affiliated prospects, and to the surprise of no one, no less than six Flames prospects were named among the top-75.

Over the summer following the 2026 NHL Draft, prospects have been ranked time and time again, and each time, the Flames pool is looked upon favourably, but in DFO's pool rankings, the team remained behind the Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks.

However, that still leaves the Flames pool at No. 3 overall, and in the individual rankings, the following six players found themselves among the top-75:

LHD Carson Carels (No. 5 overall)
RHD Zayne Parekh (No. 6 overall)
C Cole Reschny (No. 27 overall)
W Matvei Gridin (No. 28 overall)
RHD Hunter Brzustewicz (No. 70 overall)
W Ethan Wyttenbach (No. 72 overall)

Will This Lead to a Successful Calgary Flames Rebuild?

For years now, Flames fans have been calling for the team to make the attempt to escape mediocrity and push for a rebuild, and finally, under Craig Conroy, who clearly has the trust of the Flames front office, things are trending in that direction.

As a result, the team now have three defenseman ranked among the top-75 prospects in the NHL to go along with Nemec, a former No. 2 overall pick, and on top of that, several intriguing centre prospects in Theo Stockselius, Cole Reschny and Jack Hextall. That doesn't even include players like Gridin, Wyttenbach, Cullen Potter and other players with star potential, so it's very easy to see why Flames fans have become increasingly optimistic about their future.

Ultimately, these rankings won't do anything to get these Flames prospects to the NHL and success, but given that the team just keep adding young talent every single off-season, it's a matter of when, not if the youth movement truly infiltrates Calgary.
