Why Flames fans may not want to cheer for a Golden Knights Stanley Cup win

On the flip side of that, the Golden Knights remain a fierce division rival of the Calgary Flames, and given the success they've had early in their history, it's easy to see why fans would be bitter over the leg up they've been given by the NHL. It's not all on outside forces though, as the Golden Knights have remained aggressive in building a core that won the Stanley Cup in 2023, and with the team consistently going for it with their stars leading the way, they're a very good front office.

However, that hasn't all been positive, as the ruthless business attitude has led to some terrible moments, such as Marc-Andre Fleury finding out that he was traded on social media, rather than from the organization itself. Since moving to Calgary in 1980, the team have made the Stanley Cup Finals just three times (1986, 1989 and 2004) while winning once, and if Vegas were to beat Colorado, it would be their third time since just 2018.

Ultimately, the lure of a third straight first-round pick from Vegas makes a Golden Knights victory a good outcome for the Flames, but if the fans can't get behind a heated division rival winning the Stanley Cup, that's understandable too.
