Looking over the remaining free agents list and it's a little surprising Jack Roslovic remains unsigned by any National Hockey League team. Last season with the Carolina Hurricanes he scored 22 goals, good for third on the 'Canes, and 39 points. But that's only one thing to look at for the right-handed centre. He won over half of the faceoffs he took last season, the best mark in his career.
Roslovic's time on ice over his career shows an ability to play on the middle six of a forward group, and with the Flames without a true right handed centre, would be a worthy addition.
As per MoneyPuck, Roslovic had one of his better seasons in Carolina last year, and a healthy one. Playing 81 games with a shooting percentage of 15.8%, his second highest mark, which combined with the most amount of shots he took in a single season. A goals per 60 mark of 1.18, which is the highest of his career.
The 28-year-old is outside the age range set out by Flames general manager Craig Conroy, but on a short term deal of a year or two would allow the prospects to grow a little more in the AHL, NCAA, and major juniors so that they are fully ready for NHL hockey. It's still unlikely the Flames would sign Roslovic.
Flames camp battles
The preseason for the Flames has a couple of battles going on, one of them is at the centre position on the fourth line with five players in the mix for the spot in, Sam Morton, Samuel Honzek, Martin Pospisil, Justin Kirkland, and Rory Kerins.
Martin Pospisil has struggled in camp and preseason games and could be on the outside looking in when the season starts. If he's sent down to the AHL he will have to go through waivers, and in past seasons he has shown his effectiveness on the forecheck and making life miserable for opposing defenders. There's a good chance he would be picked up if the Flames decide to send him down.
The other big battle seems to have been decided, that being Ivan Prosvetov and Devin Cooley. It would appear that the Flames will start with the tandem of Dustin Wolf and Ivan Prosvetov after Cooley struggled in his full preseason game against the Winnipeg Jets.
The 2025-26 season for the Flames opens October 8 against the Edmonton Oilers.
