Who Takes the Seventh Defenseman Spot?

For now, much of the Flames lineup should be set, and while some spots can be taken in training camp, for the most part, this is all about the depth of the organization and winning key spots down in the order.
The first depth spot up for grabs is the seventh defenseman spot, and if the team are intent on taking all of their veterans into camp, the top-six will be Kevin Bahl, Simon Nemec, Jake Middleton, Zayne Parekh, Yan Kuznetsov and Zach Whitecloud. Beyond that, they've got three players vying for the depth spot in Hunter Brzustewicz, Joel Hanley and Brayden Pachal, and while the team lack elite level players, they've still somehow managed to create a logjam of players at a certain position.
It's not a critical position for the Flames, as the team are going to run out with a defense full of potential in 2026/27, especially in Parek/Nemec, but now, the front office have some decisions to make on the back end of their blue line.
