While the pre-season and regular season are still days away, Calgary Flames hockey got started at the Saddledome on Monday night, with the Flames prospects taking on the Edmonton Oilers in the first Battle of Alberta in 2026/27.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as well as the Flames had hoped, as the team fell 6-1 to their bitter rivals, but with the absence of 6-8 of the organization's top prospects, this shouldn't be seen as too big of an issue in Calgary. While the team lost in a big way, there were standout performers, and with the team still being patient in the development of this prospect pool, there were plenty of positives to take away from the game.
We may not be seeing many of the Flames that took part in this game with the organization in 2026/27, but that doesn't mean there wasn't plenty to be learned from this game, and now, we'll give three major takeaways from the Flames first performance on Saddledome ice this season.
