4. The Flames are Incredibly Undisciplined

In game one of the season, the Calgary Flames struggled to play at 5v5 as they gave away some careless penalties, and in this game it was much of the same, with Vancouver enjoying five different powerplay opportunieis due to 37 penalty minutes.
Sure, plenty of that came due to Adam Klapka standing up for his teammates, but the constant penalties once again stunted any consistent pressure the Flames were managing to put together. This will settle down as the season goes on, but with little offense to speak of, so many players are trying to step up and make plays, and while the momentum could change as the year goes on, right now, that trying to hard has led to way too many penalties.
3. Zayne Parekh and Simon Nemec are Dynamic
To the surprise of no one, many of the Flames takeaways from six periods of action are negative, and with just two goals scored, it's hard to find some big positives to take from the performance of this team. However, two standouts thus far have been Zayne Parekh and Simon Nemec, and while the ill-discipline has limited their offensive opportunities, when they get them, they've been capitalizing.
Among Flames blue liners, Parekh was second last in time on ice with 17:00, but with four shots on net and the assist on the Flames only goal, the former No. 9 pick is starting to impose himself on games. As for Nemec, it's much of the same as Parekh, but after being stapled to a pairing with Joel Hanley, it's no surprise that his play didn't amound to much, but as the team around them get adjusted to No. 19 and 71, their numbers will get better.
