The Calgary Flames 2025/26 campaign was a miserable one from an offensive standpoint, but after dealing veteran Blake Coleman and trying to get younger, next season could be even worse from that perspective.
Last year, Matt Coronato made history when he led the Flames in scoring with just 45 points across 80 games, making him the lowest scoring team leader in Calgary history, proof of how bad the team were for much of the season.
While the outlook isn't much more promising moving forward, there is some young talent to keep an eye on in Calgary this season. Of those players and their veterans, there are many that can score when given the chance, so who could be the Flames leader in scoring this season?
5. Matt Coronato
While Matt Coronato started the 2025/26 season with the worst luck possible, he found his footing as the year went on, and although his goal scoring took a step back from 24 in 24/25 to just 18 a year ago, he led the team in scoring with 45 points in 80 games played. Although rival fans will clearly clown the Flames for their top scorer having just 45, for Coronato, it was a solid season, but as he turns 24 in the season ahead, he needs to take that next step.
Coronato clearly has all the tools to be a very good player in the NHL, and if he starts to get some luck with his shot, especially with a key role on the Flames powerplay, he's set up for a career year in 2026/27. He has long been tabbed as a potential 30-goal scorer at the NHL level, and with a team that's got limited talent around him, next season is the time for him to step up and start fulfilling that potential.
