The Calgary Flames enter the 2026 NHL Draft with plenty of picks, and while they dealt No. 35 overall to the New Jersey Devils in the Simon Nemec deal, they still have their own No. 36 overall.

While that's not going to net the Flames immediate help or even a potentially elite prospect, this draft is considered rather deep, and if the board swings their way, they could be getting a future contributor at the NHL level.

Only time will tell which prospects are available if and when the Flames pick at No. 36 (potential for moving up into the first-round again or further into the first), but the following five should be on your radar come draft night.

5. LHD William Hakansson

Over the past two years, the Flames have added plenty of talent to their blue line, but the one thing they don't yet have is a true physical force, although the team hoped a prospect like Mace'o Phillips could fill that void. However, they need to keep drafting different styles, and if that's the type of player they want in their lineup for years to come, then William Hakansson is certainly an option.

While he's 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, Hakansson is a very mobile skater, and as a result he's a major physical threat on the back end, and given the versatility, the floor for him is a third-pairing defenseman at the next level. The offensive numbers aren't going to impress anyone, but with the tools, he could become a solid contributor and the type of threat the Flames simply don't have right now.
