2. LW Ryan Roobroeck
While the Calgary Flames have strayed from drafting for size recently, it's still a need at the next level, and if they want a combination of both, winger Ryan Roobroeck from the Niagara IceDogs could be a great pick. Standing at 6-foot-4, 216 pounds, Roobroeck is a physical force, and as a result of his goal scoring prowess (41 in 64 games in 2024/25), he was once considered a potential lottery pick.
However, the production went down in 2025/26, with Roobroeck posting 30 goals and 58 points in 49 games played, and while his draft stock fell, he still profiles as a very good middle-six winger in the NHL. There's question marks over his motor, but with his physical tools, the fantastic shot and his ability to find space, there's no reason why the Flames couldn't take a chance on him early in the second round.
1. LW Marcus Nordmark
The Calgary Flames have some very promising young wingers led by the duo of Matvei Gridin and Matt Coronato, but given what a lottery the NHL Draft is, you can never have too many of them. With that in mind, it's always best to shoot for the highest potential, and out of players that may be available at No. 36 overall, Sweden's Marcus Nordmark fits that bill.
In 25 games at the junior level a year ago, Nordmark posted 14 goals and 38 points, and with a further 6 goals and 23 points in 11 playoff games, he established himself as a potential contributor in the NHL. This pick would become even better if the Flames used No. 6 overall on Djurgardens teammate Viggo Bjorck, but Nordmark stands up on his own, and with great size at 6-foot-2 to accompany the goal scoring and high skill, he'd be a no-brainer here.
