2. LHD Ethan MacKenzie

The Calgary Flames may have some good young prospects, but with so many picks, they can double up at some positions, and whether or not they take Carson Carels/Keaton Verhoeff in round one, they still need blue line prospects. There's some big names at LHD available, but one that could be an interesting pickup would be Edmonton Oil Kings blue liner Ethan MacKenzie, who also represented Canada at the 2026 World Juniors.

In 2025/26, MacKenzie had a career high 22 goals and 58 points in 59 games played, and while he's a little older at 19-years-old, that experience could be a positive for the Flames as they look to fill out the left side of their blue line. For Canada, MacKenzie tallied 1 goal and 5 points in 7 games played, and although the ceiling isn't top-pairing level, he could be a safe bet to play plenty of games for the Flames in the years to come.

1. C Egor Shilov

Centres, centres, centres. While the Flames can't just take any centres in this draft, their organizational goal should be to add as many centre prospects as possible in the hopes that at least a few of them turn out to be game changers at the NHL level. Egor Shilov is an example of a player that's worth taking a chance on, as he produced 32 goals and 83 points in 62 games at the QMJHL level with the Victoriaville Tigres.

Offensively, Shilov is as complete as any player that will be available in the second round, and given his puck control and puck skills, he has the talent to be a very impactful NHLer player over a long career. His effort, energy and engagement have often been criticized, but with the step up to the AHL level in the next few years incoming, that can be trained to go along with the skill to make him a very, very intriguing prospect.
