4. RHD Keaton Verhoeff

Until recently, Keaton Verhoeff seemed to be the pick for the Flames at No. 6, and while that can't be ruled out as a long-term option on the blue line alongside Zayne Parekh and Simon Nemec, the chances that he is picked have now gone down slightly. While Verhoeff has his shortcomings, he was once considered a contender to go No. 1 overall, and given the physical attributes at 18-years-old (as of last week), he's a very exciting prospect.

With 6 goals and 20 points in 36 games alongside Cole Reschny and Abram Wiebe at North Dakota, the offensive flashes are there, and while he would need a few years of development, a 6-foot-4, 210 pound right-shot defenseman with that skill is hard to come by. There's a greater chance now that the Flames target centre in the first-round over a blue liner, but if the team are in love with Verhoeff as a prospect, he could be a long-term star for this team.

3. C Caleb Malhotra

If there was a better chance that Caleb Malhotra of the Brantford Bulldogs was available to the Flames at No. 6 overall, he'd be much, much higher on our list, but right now, it appears unlikely that he will fall that far. Not as unlikely as Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg however, and as a result we have to have him on our list given his potential as a top-line centre at the National Hockey League level.

This past season in the OHL, Malhotra got better and better as the year went on, ending the season with 29 goals and 84 points in 67 games played, and when he took his game to the next level in the playoffs, he solidified himself as a top pick in the draft. With good size at 6-foot-2, 182 pounds and elite level hockey IQ, the ceiling is very high in the NHL, and if he's there at No. 6 overall, it would be a very tough call for the Flames to pass on him.
