The Calgary Flames struggled mightily throughout 2025/26, and with their victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, they finished the regular season ranked 29th in the National Hockey League standings.

Obviously, much of the season was negative, with the team struggling for offense while the goaltending carried a defence that went through major transitions, and as a result, it was another tough campaign all around. However, there were some bright spots, and with the emerging young talent on the team, there's plenty to look forward to for Flames fans.

While the season may be over, there's going to be action for several Calgary Flames, as it was confirmed during exit interviews that two Flames will be taking part in the 2026 IIHF World Championships.

Unsurprisingly, the first of those two is Martin Pospisil, who will be representing Slovakia after he played a significant role for them during the 2026 Olympic Games, even after a very tough season for the young forward. Secondly is the Flames biggest breakout player of the 2025/26 season, as Devin Cooley has earned a spot with the United States, a move unsurprising with the likes of Jeremy Swayman and Jake Oettinger both currently in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

This season, the 28-year old posted career bests of a 2.69 GAA and a .909 save percentage, and given how likeable he is in Calgary, he'll have plenty of support as he looks for a role with the USA at the World Championships. The Championships will take place in Switzerland between the 15th and 31st of May, and given the renewed interest in the international game, it's a massive stage for two very talented Flames.

Obviously, most of the players would rather be competing in the post-season themselves, but after a tough campaign, it's great to see several Flames rewarded for their solid play throughout the regular season.
