While there's no Calgary Flames action in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, that doesn't mean that the season has ended for everyone on the team. Instead, several players took to Switzerland to represent their home country in the 2026 IIHF World Championship, and through one week of the tournament, there's been some standout performances.

Team USA

The Flames sent not one, but two players to the tournament for Team USA, with Matt Coronato's snipe currently being one of the highlights of the tournament for the United States, who have gone 1-1-0-2 through their first 4 games.

Unfortunately, it's currently Coronato's only goal and only point through those four games, as the young Flames forward also carries a -2 differential in that time. As for Devin Cooley, things have been a little different, as he has posted 1 victory along with a 1.84 GAA and a .929 save percentage, with that victory being the OT thriller against Germany.

Team Finland

A trade deadline acquisition, Olli Maatta played well for the Calgary Flames down the stretch, and currently, he's a key reason why Finland have gone undefeated through their first four games of the tournament.

In that time, he's second on the team among blue liners with a +3 goal differential and two assists, and while the offensive production is never going to jump off the page, this is the consistent, responsible play we expect to see from Maatta. Right now, Finland are set up to be genuine contenders for a gold medal at the tournament, and if they're to get that done, Maatta is going to play a massive role in that success.
