After a tough season that saw the Calgary Flames finish 34-39-9 and 29th in the overall NHL standings, the moment that Flames fans have been waiting for is finally here. With the hope of landing a franchise altering player, Calgary struggled throughout the season, and now, we will find out whether or not it was all worth it.

The draft is loaded with talent, but in the upper echelon is Gavin McKenna, who many Flames fans have been fantasizing about leading Calgary's rebuild since the 2025/26 season began. To do that, the Flames will undoubtedly need to win the Draft Lottery, so how will they get that done?

After finishing 29th in the standings, the Flames have the fourth best odds at landing the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft, giving them a 9.5% chance to get it done, or 95 different lottery ball combinations out of 1,000, with Vancouver's chances at No. 1 being 185 combinations.

Coming into the lottery, the Flames can't go lower than sixth overall, and with names like McKenna, Ivar Stenberg, Caleb Malhotra, Carson Carels, Keaton Verhoeff, Chase Reid and others available, they will leave the draft with a big name prospect to add to an already loaded cupboard of prospects. So what are the Flames lottery odds for each position between 1 and 6?

Currently, the Flames have a 9.5% chance at No. 1 overall, 9.5% chance at No. 2 overall, just a 0.3% chance at No. 3, a 15.4% chance at No. 4 overall while No. 5 overall is a 44.6% chance and 20.8% at coming in sixth in the lottery. Clearly, that means the odds are likely to go against the Flames and see them come in below No. 3 overall, which would severely limit their ability to draft one of the best players available in the draft.

The 2026 NHL Draft Lottery takes place on Tuesday, May 5th and will be broadcast in Canada on Sportsnet at 7PM ET, 5PM PT.
