Mikael Backlund

While this is another potential games played milestone, it deserves its own recognition, as captain Mikael Backlund, who debuted for the Flames during the 2008/09 season is closing in on the Flames all-time games played record.
Currently, that title is held by Flames legend Jarome Iginla, who played 1,219 games for the franchise throughout his iconic career, but heading into 2026/27, Backlund is sitting at 1,148, meaning that he's just 71 games behind No. 12, with 72 games played this year meaning he'll pass him at the No. 1 position.
Sure, Backlund may never pass Iginla's reputation and love in Calgary, but he's been as loyal and consistent as anyone in franchise history, and when he eventually does pass Iggy's all-time games played mark, he should get the love and adoration he thoroughly deserves.
