Yegor Sharangovich

In his first season with the Calgary Flames, Yegor Sharangovich caught fire, netting 31 goals alongside a career high 59 points, with the team happily handing him a five-year extension as a result. Right now though, that deal isn't looking too great, as he has just 32 goals over the next two seasons combined, but after adding a much stronger defensive effort to his game, his role seemingly transitioned this past season.
Unfortunately though, without much offensive production and a contract that pays him $5.7 million for the next five years, there's very little value there for a streaky goal scorer that has struggled to finish for two straight seasons. As a result, the Flames are stuck with him, but instead of fitting him into the lineup, the team need to make an adjustment, and that likely means a permanent role on the fourth line with some powerplay time mixed in.
Verdict: Move Sharangovich to the fourth line permanently and hope his goal scoring touch returns.
Martin Pospisil

Back in his debut season of 2023/24, Martin Pospisil showed flashes of being a two-way power forward in the NHL when he posted 8 goals and 24 points in 63 games played, with the team hoping he could be a long-term solution in the middle-six. Unfortunately, he appeared in just 22 games this past season, and with the team adding the likes of Tyson Gross and Jonathan Castagna alongside Sam Morton and Rory Kerins, his role on the fourth line has seemingly become redundant.
While he still has potential at the NHL level, right now, it's hard to rely on the health of Pospisil moving forward, and with so much young talent emerging, there's a chance he's already hit his ceiling in the NHL. It's likely that the Flames keep Pospisil and allow him to battle it out with other top names for a spot on the fourth line, but with the future being prioritized, it may be time to gauge the market for the former fourth-round pick.
Verdict: The Flames should likely move on from Pospisil for someone more reliable this off-season and hopefully get back a mid to late round draft pick.
