The 2026 NHL off-season is almost here for the Calgary Flames, and with so many decisions still to make for the future, the next few months will be critical to the development of the organization and their current rebuild.

This summer, the team are expecting to be very active in the trade market, and with nine draft picks in the top-100 of the 2026 NHL Draft, including eight in the first 68 selections, the Flames could bolster their already impressive prospect cupboard. However, they're not going to be as active in free agency, as GM Craig Conroy recently revealed that it's going to be very quiet on that front for the next few years.

That's not the only way to add players though, and with Calgary looking to get younger, a surprise offer sheet could be the avenue for this team to add a young, NHL ready player under 24-years of age this off-season. Recently, it was revealed what a team would have to give up in an offer sheet situation, and for the Flames, this is very relevant information given the speculation around the front office and their desires to acquire young talent.

In some years, there's a lack of top restricted free agents, but this off-season, that couldn't be further from the truth, and armed with so much draft capital, the Flames are one team that could take advantage of the offer sheet. We haven't seen one for a few years since the St. Louis Blues swept in and took not only Philip Broberg, but Dylan Holloway away from the Edmonton Oilers, and this off-season, there's a few teams around the NHL looking to do the same.

Sure, the Flames aren't going to give up multiple first-round picks, meaning that an offer sheet over $9.5 million likely isn't going to happen, but if they see a player that would realistically sign an offer sheet under $4.8 million, expect Calgary to be interested and pursue that avenue.
