When Will the Calgary Flames Wear Their New Throwback Jerseys?

After years of fans begging to see a 2004 throwback jersey, the Calgary Flames finally announced that the iconic black 'C' will be making a return in 2026/27, just in time to bid farewell to the Scotiabank Saddledome.

This is one of the most beloved jerseys in franchise history, and while they won't be on sale until October 23rd, it was clear from the moment it was announced on both social media and in the arena that fans were thrilled.

So, just how many times will we see it this season, and who will those games be against? Let's take a look.

The Flames Will Wear Their Throwback Four Times in 2026/27

For fans wanting to see this one a lot during the season, you may be disappointed, as the Flames will don the black C just four times this season, but unsurprisingly, the Flames have made those four the most meaningful matchups. Not meaningful to the 2026/27 squad, but rather the 2004 team, as the Flames will wear their throwback against the four opponents they faced during their run to the Stanley Cup Finals.

That means they'll wear it against the Detroit Red Wings on October 24, the Vancouver Canucks on December 26, the San Jose Sharks on December 29 and eventually, the Tampa Bay Lightning on January 9, all four games coming at the Saddledome.

Will We See the '04 Throwback Become a Permanent Jersey?

Over the past few years, the Flames have worn throwback jerseys that ended up becoming their permanent uniform setup with the white and red that was originally worn when the team arrived in Calgary. Between then and now, they have changed uniforms many times, and after their reimagined 'Blasty' became a permanent fixture in the past three years, fans are hoping for the same with this one.

Right now, it has not been confirmed whether or not this is the case, but with a 'Hometown Remix' jersey also on the way from Fanatics, a sequel to Adidas' 'Reverse Retro' series, the Flames will have some big decisions to make.

Regardless, the Flames have given the fans something they've all desperately wanted, and in the final year of the Saddledome, there's going to be plenty of memories for everyone to look back on with the '04 jersey setup making a brief comeback.
