LW Sam Honzek

Last season, Sam Honzek started showing true potential in the NHL, but once again, he was hit with an injury that hampered any development or potential return to the top level, and at 21-years-old, many believe he's running out of chances in Calgary. In 18 games, Honzek showed flashes, posting 2 goals and 4 points, and with the former first-round pick reportedly putting on plenty of muscle, this could be a break out year for him.

Following the departure of Blake Coleman, a perfect role has opened up for him on the Flames second line with Mikael Backlund, and to start the 2026/27 regular season, that's exactly where he should be.

LW Ethan Wyttenbach

Ethan Wyttenbach was the biggest surprise in the Calgary Flames organization a year ago, as the fifth-round pick popped at Quinnipiac, leading the NCAA in scoring with an impressive 25 goals and 59 points in 40 games played. While there's still question marks over his size at the NHL level, Wyttenbach is a pure goal scorer, and after a dominant freshman season, he's set to return to Quinnipiac for the 2026/27 campaign.

However, he was among the loaded 2025 draft class of the Flames, with GM Craig Conroy reportedly keeping spots open for him and two others from that class who expect to make the leap to the NHL at the end of the regular season, and if he dominates again, that will be a guarantee.
