G Arsenii Sergeev
This past season, Arsenii Sergeev became one of few players in hockey history to go from the ECHL to the AHL and all the way to the NHL in their first professional season, and he put plenty in Calgary on notice. However, his path to a full-time role in the NHL is blocked by Devin Cooley as Dustin Wolf's backup, and now, he'll likely spend the majority of the season as the Wranglers starter in the AHL unless there's an injury at the top level.
For the Wranglers last season, Sergeev posted an .898 save percentage and a 3.35 GAA across 29 games, and with Ivan Prosvetov departing the organization, the team will look to pivot towards their youth. At 23-years-old, Sergeev has plenty of work to do before becoming a full-time NHL goaltender, but after the potential he showed in his debut last year, expect big things from him in the AHL.
G Kirill Zarubin
Another goaltender that will play in the NHL this year is Kirill Zarubin, a former third-round pick of the Calgary Flames that is making the jump to North America in 2026/27 as the 20-year-old looks to establish himself as a key piece of Calgary's future.
Last year in the MHL in Russia, Zarubin dominated across 48 games, posting a .930 save percentage and a 2.15 GAA alongside three shutouts, proving that he's among the best goaltending prospects in the NHL. His role will be limited behind Sergeev in the AHL, and he may even spend time in the ECHL if the Flames want to get him more playing time, but now is the chance for him to step up and play a huge role with the Wranglers in the AHL.
