LHD Abram Wiebe

Abram Wiebe was acquired in the Rasmus Andersson deal, and while his numbers in college didn't jump off the page, he improved every year at North Dakota, finishing 2025/26 with career best numbers of 5 goals and 29 points in 40 games with a +13 differential.

Given the injuries to the Flames blue line late in the year, he was immediately thrust into the NHL, and while he didn't post a goal or an assist in 4 games played, he looked very comfortable and confident from the moment he arrived. Unfortunately for Wiebe, the Flames defensive core is full heading into 2026/27, and while he may get the opportunity late in the year after some trades are made, to begin the season, he'll be down in the AHL, and there he should get the chance to play top-four minutes.

RW Aydar Suniev

Aydar Suniev quietly had a very good first professional season a year ago, and while things started slow with the Wranglers, he picked it up impressively as the year went on, as he finished the year with 16 goals in 57 games. In six games for the Flames, Suniev showed flashes of potential while getting more comfortable as his stay went on, and as a result, the Flames need to prioritize him in their top-nine in 2026/27.

Throughout his college career, Suniev showed a ridiculous release and the ability to finish anywhere on the ice, and with playmakers like Jonathan Huberdeau and Ryan Strome expected to be paired together, a young finisher like Suniev would be a great pairing there. Ultimately, it doesn't matter who he plays with, as long as Ryan Huska prioritizes Suniev in the lineup, and if he does that, the Flames could have a good middle-six winger for years to come.
