F Andrew Basha
Andrew Basha is arguably the Flames most overlooked prospect, and even though the team used a second-round pick on him in 2024, he's often forgotten as a potential piece of the Flames future in the NHL. The Calgary native struggled in the AHL a year ago, but when he went back to Medicine Hat, he absolutely dominated, tallying 18 goals and 50 points in 32 games, with the most interest wrinkle of all being his move to centre.
While he's not the most physically imposing (6-foot-0, 190 pounds) or skilled prospect in the Flames system, Basha can drive play well and has a high IQ, and this year, he should be expected to play a significant role with the Calgary Wranglers following plenty of departures from the team. It's unclear how his development will go from there, but the Flames clearly believe in him, so expect him to get a significant role with the Wranglers this season.
LHD Carson Carels
Carson Carels was the Calgary Flames prize pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and already the two-way, left-shot defenseman is winning fans in Calgary, as he's expected to be a long-term fit next to Zayne Parekh on the blue line.
The Flames young star will suit up at North Dakota next season alongside Cole Reschny, but from all accounts, he's hoping it's a one-year stay with a potential Flames debut looming at the end of the regular season. It's unclear just how confident the organization is that that will happen, but given his skillset, his physical makeup and his confidence, don't be surprised to see the future arrive sooner, rather than later.
