Team Sweden
For years now, the Calgary Flames have gone to Sweden in the draft many times over, and in 2025, they did so again in the second-round of the draft, they did so again, and this time, it may result in a middle-six centre for a long time.
That could potentially be years away, but with the World Juniors ahead, there's one Swede that's drawing more and more attention for the Flames, and he's set for a big tournament at the end of 2026.
Lock - Theo Stockselius
While Ethan Wyttenbach was player of the tournament at the 2026 World Juniors Summer Showcase, the biggest riser of all was Theo Stockselius, who many saw as a potential middle-six winger for Sweden coming into the event. Coming out of it, he looks like not only a top-six centre, but Sweden's obvious 1C heading into the World Juniors.
Given his size at 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Stockselius can effect the game against junior opponents physically, but in this tournament, he also showed his improved playmaking and finishing around the net, and that growth has seen his stock rise immensely.
He may never be a star producer at the NHL level, but with a good combination of size, skill and confidence, if Stockselius can develop over the next four months before the tournament, he could play a huge role as Sweden look to win back-to-back gold medals.
