Andrew Basha

One of the most exciting players in the Calgary Flames system right now is Medicine Hat Tigers forward Andrew Basha, and while he struggled in 27 games with the Wranglers last year, he hit the ground running when he was sent back to the WHL. In 32 games with the Tigers, Basha tallied 18 goals and 50 points, and in the playoffs thus far, he's taken his game to another level, picking up 3 goals and 14 points in 9 games to this point.
Not only that, but he's transitioned into a centre in the WHL, and given the Flames need for stars down the middle, the former second-round pick is flashing the potential that the team have been seeking. Basha won't turn 21 until the 2026/27 is underway, so the team can be patient with him as he transitions into a full-time role with the Wranglers, but if a spot opens up with the Flames, Basha should be at the top of the list to make his NHL debut.
Jonathan Castagna
The player most likely to make his NHL debut for the Calgary Flames in 2026/27 is Jonathan Castagna, a prospect that the team landed in the Mackenzie Weegar trade with the Utah Mammoth. Most expected that to come last year, but he signed an ELC that did not begin until next season, and now, he's lined up to play a significant role at the professional level next year.
With Ryan Strome figuring into the 3C role in Calgary, he's likely to be traded at some point, and given Castagna's significant experience (101 games at the college level), he's more than built for the professional game. Last season with Cornell, Castagna had 15 goals and 34 points in 34 games, and on top of that, he was named the ECAC's best defensive forward, and given what Mikael Backlund has meant to this team, he's the perfect fit in the bottom-six.
Whether he starts the season with the Flames or the Wranglers, it's a matter of when, not if Castagna plays a significant role with the Flames, and at 21-years of age, the future is incredibly bright for him.
