Morgan Frost
Morgan Frost has been given ample opportunity to prove that he can be a difference maker in the NHL with the Flames, and after the team dealt Nazem Kadri at the 2026 trade deadline, they gave him that opportunity. Frost grabbed that chance with both hands, and on a line with Matvei Gridin and Matt Coronato, he thrived down the stretch, posting 10 goals and 16 points over his final 24 games of the year.
However, he's coming into the final year of his contract in 2026/27 with a $4.375 million value, and if the Flames don't intend to sign him long-term (which is yet to be determined), then moving him now makes the most sense. At 27-years-old, Frost has shown immense potential, and when he's given the opportunity and the right linemates, he can be a difference maker, and while many in Calgary want to see him long-term as a potential 3C for years to come, if that deal doesn't get done, dealing him is the move to make.
Zach Whitecloud
After the acquisition of Simon Nemec, the Flames top-four was hypothetically filled out with Kevin Bahl, Nemec, Zayne Parekh and Zach Whitecloud, but now, things are getting a little too crowded on the Flames blue line. Then, the team dealt for Jake Middleton, and with the left side of Bahl, Yan Kuznetsov and Middleton, it's likely that Parekh will be pushed back to the right, giving the team a major decision to make.
They will hopefully deal Hanley already, but on top of that, given the teams that need help on the right side of their blue line, Zach Whitecloud could be the perfect trade bait for a team looking for a veteran presence at a very affordable price. Whitecloud remains under contract for two more years at a $2.75 million cap hit, and while he's been incredible in the community of Calgary already, the team need to maximize his value now.
After arriving, the 29-year-old posted 10 assists across 31 games played, with his 17 points being the second highest mark of his career thus far, with the defensive side of the game where the veteran instead excels. While the Flames clearly value Whitecloud's leadership and his popularity off the ice, this blue line is getting younger, and if the team are to maximize Hunter Brzustewicz of the future, it's vital then that they trade Whitecloud before the 2026/27 season begins.
