Players to Keep an Eye On
As mentioned, the future of this Calgary Flames franchise is fairly promising, and given that most, if not all of the players on this team are closer to the end of their career than the start, that means the franchise will need to start finding leaders sooner, rather than later.
Prospects such as Cole Reschny and Carson Carels profile as future captains, but they need time to get NHL experience, so Matt Coronato is a name to watch as a potential alternate captain in 2026/27. Last year, he led the team in scoring, and at 23-years-old, this coming season could be the time that he takes the next step in leadership, so while he may not wear an 'A', if his development continues, he could be a candidate in the years to come.
Beyond Coronato, one player that could solidify himself as a part of this leadership group is veteran Jake Middleton, who the Flames acquired in the Blake Coleman trade, and immediately, he won many fans in Calgary with his interviews, and if he leads well in camp, he could be a dark horse to wear an 'A' immediately.
