Joel Farabee
Last season, Joel Farabee stepped up in a big way, becoming a key piece of the middle-six in Calgary, and while he's never going to dominate on the ice, he's the type of solid, reliable player that can play in any role that teams in the NHL need.
While he's likely never going to ascend to the captaincy, Farabee, who will turn 27-years-old during the 2026/27 season has turned into a veteran on this Flames team, and after the third 20-goal campaign of his career last year, he can be that Backlund-type player in Calgary for years to come.
After the departures of the Flames veterans last year, it was Farabee that stepped up into a leadership role, so unless he's shockingly traded this season, he should become a permanent fixture in Calgary's leadership group.
Kevin Bahl
Kevin Bahl is a player that we recently tabbed as a potential future captain of the Calgary Flames, and given that like Farabee, he's currently 26-years-old, he fits the timeline as a long-term option in Calgary. Last season, we saw Bahl play one of the most important roles on this Flames team as their top LHD, and while the team struggled overall, and given that he was a +2 on the 29th best team in the NHL, he's effecting the game in many ways.
On the ice, Bahl is one of the most reliable players in the NHL with his great reach, quick plays in transition and high IQ, and while the team is well into a rebuild, he's the type of veteran the team need to keep around for the other side of that rebuild.
Off the ice however, Bahl is seemingly the quieter type player from the outside looking in, but given his confidence, his play style and the age profile, he fits as the perfect player to replace Rasmus Andersson and his 'A' this season.
