Matt Coronato

Matt Coronato has been arguably the Flames best player early in 2026/27, and while he's second on the team in goals with 2, that hasn't been the strong point of his game early in the year.
Instead, it's been his physicality and his willingness to do the small things to get his team into the game, and on Sunday it was absolutely no different. However, it was the assist to Matvei Gridin that was his biggest moment of the night, and as he continues to grow in confidence, clearly his all around game does too.
Matt Coronato assisted on one of three @NHLFlames goals tonight as Calgary snapped an opponent's win streak of seven or more games for the ninth time in franchise history and first since 2022-23 (NYR: 7 GP).#NHLStats: https://t.co/sUG88eXIx9 pic.twitter.com/OiKNyw3Ybr

The linemates for Coronato have changed at points this season, but thus far his game has only improved, and with 5 points in 8 games for a team that ranks 30th in the NHL in goals scored shows just how much potential he has.
Jonathan Castagna
From the moment he arrived in the NHL, Jonathan Castagna has separated himself with a high end two-way game, and as the games go by, he continues to take major steps forward. As of right now, he's still just got the one assist to his name, and he didn't find the scoreboard on Sunday, but given the consistent forecheck and the work in the faceoff circle, he was a standout once more.
After a good season in the NCAA a year ago, the hope was that Castagna could arrive in the NHL at some point this year, but in a matter of five games, he's already established himself as a full-time NHLer.
It's pretty damn cool to see Jonathan Castagna on the ice defending a 3-2 lead against the defending cup champs.

This has been Castagna's best game of the season.
Whether that means he'll transition to the middle-six moving forward or not, only time will tell, but through the start of his career, Castagna has been clearly noticeable on the ice, and that continued in the 3-2 win over Carolina.
