Tonight the Calgary Flames take on the Colorado Avalanche in the 79th game of the Flames’ season. Flames are headed into this game with 1 win in their last 7 games, not exactly the boast of confidence the team needs as they continue their “playoff push”. Their one win comes against the Dallas Stars, 55 hours after a blow out by the Stars. Flames are also ten days removed from their overtime loss to the Avalanche.
This plus their lack of drive in recent games makes me uneasy for tonight’s game. Their end of the season slump is disheartening to fans who believed their playoff push. I as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, the Flames aren’t doing anything to help themselves. Getting back to basics and showing up to optional skates might actually be beneficial at this point, certainly it can’t be worst than how they play when they don’t show up to optional skates.
Heading into this game:
- Jarome Iginla has 2 points in his last 7 games
- Olli Jokinen has 1 point in his last 9 games
- Alex Tanguay has 1 point in 4 games
- Curtis Glencross is invisible on the ice with 1 point in his last 5 games
- David Moss has 0 points in his last 9 games
Those are some big names to have hit a slump. Who is giving the Flames some hope?
- Mike Cammalleri has 3 points in his last to games
- Mark Giordano is 3 for 3.
Everyone else is putting along like they have been all season. Guess what? That’s not going to work in these last few games. Status quo will not see you into the playoffs. All lines have to step it up and start playing the highest quality of hockey if they want to see that first round and beyond.
Puck drops at 7pm.
Go Flames Go!
