Good morning Calgary Flames fans! It’s another cold day in Calgary and it’s supposed to start snowing again tomorrow (boo). Let’s see what’s happening in the world of Flames.
It’s very cold in Calgary today and it makes me want to cry. But you know what doesn’t make me cry? Crowchild Classics. The University of Calgary Dinos and the Mount Royal University Cougars faced off for the fifth edition of the Crowchild Classic at the home of the Calgary Flames, the Saddledome.
The attendance last night was around 11,900 which isn’t too far off from the record which was just made last year.
Last year’s Crowchild Classic set a new U SPORTS (formerly known as CIS) men’s hockey attendance record with a total of 12,859 fans in attendance. This broke the attendance record set the previous year’s edition of 8,882. In the first installment of the rivalry game in 2012, the Crowchild Classic broke a 42-year-old Canada West record.

And now on to Flames-related things, they play today against the New Jersey Devils at 5:30 MT. This will be the second and final meeting between these two teams.
In the first meeting, the Devils won 2-1 and the lone Flames goal-scorer was Sean Monahan. At that point, Monahan had just started what would be a five-game goal streak. That was ended, but he got right back in it. In the Flames last game, he had two goals which was his first multi-goal game of the season.
Let’s hope Monahan doesn’t slow down soon since 2017 has been incredible for the 22 year old.
The Flames haven’t posted the projected lineup yet, however we know that Brian Elliott will be getting the start since the team is going with the win-and-start method and he won last game.
