Good morning Calgary Flames fans! We woke up this morning with the Flames in a playoff spot. Let’s take a look at some Flames news.

We haven’t woken up to the Calgary Flames in a playoff spot in about a week, so this is a nice feeling. But the Flames need to keep winning to keep this spot.

Let’s take a look at some post-game comments from last night’s 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. A lot of the players praised Brian Elliott for his stellar performance. He had 33 saves on 34 shots and really made some incredible saves.

Via Calgaryflames.com:

"“Thank God,” said Matthew Tkachuk, speaking for the group, “we had Moose back there.”“He was dialed in all night long,” praised coach Glen Gulutzan of his puck-repeller. “Right to the bitter end. For me, sometimes we weren’t very good as a group, our skaters. We talked about how you’re trying to get out of something, trying to get some momentum, your goalie can change things for you. This was a game our goalie won.”"

Now, let’s go on to more stressful topics. Like trade deadline nearing. The Flames are currently in desperate need of a fourth defenceman. And as much as I love Deryk Engelland, he can’t quite fill that role.

This team (and the fans) would love to see a trade come out of Dennis Wideman. However, not many teams really want him. But say it with me everyone. Only a couple more months and we don’t have to see him anymore.

Since the Flames are in a bad contract with him (over $5 million salary), it’d be very beneficial for the team to be able to get a trade out of him and get something for this trade instead of waiting out his contract. But again, the likelihood of finding a team willing to trade something $5 million worth is very slim.

And Brad Treliving has said that these next few weeks will determine if we’ll be seeing any trades. So if the Flames can come out of these next few weeks strong, maybe there’s no need for a trade.
