The Calgary Flames topped the Florida Panthers 4-2 with everybody contributing except that top line. They are now 3-0-1 on this five-game road trip.

The Calgary Flames win both of their back-to-back games in the sunshine state. They topped the Florida Panthers 4-2 to go 3-0-1 on this five-game road trip so far and are 3-0-0 this week so far.

A lot of players contributed in this game. In fact, every line did, except for that top line. They were somewhat quiet tonight.

The Panthers did open up the scoring tonight, but the Flames came back and scored three unanswered in the first period. With Matthew Tkachuk‘s two assists tonight, he now leads all Flames with 30 assists. That also puts him at second in assists among rookies this season, just three back from Mitch Marner.

The coaching staff decided to go with Chad Johnson between the pipes tonight so Brian Elliott wouldn’t be playing in back-to-back games. And if anybody was nervous about Johnson, this completely proved them wrong. He was incredible and made some key saves, especially in the third period when the Panthers had a lot of push. He allowed just two goals on 38 shots, earning him the first star of the game.

Troy Brouwer notched a goal and an assist tonight too, his first goal since February 5th and only his second since December 19th. That was Brouwer’s 10th goal of the season which now gives the Flames ten players with double digit goals. That’s tied for the highest in the league. Sam Bennett also scored tonight which was his first goal in 11 games. And our lovely sniper, Deryk Engelland, notched a goal tonight too.

The Calgary Flames are now 8-2-1 in their last 11 games and 6-1-1 in their last eight road games. The Flames also win their third of the season in the second game in back-to-backs. The Flames are now on a three-game win streak and five-game point streak. They have now won three in four nights which is a great feat.

I personally would have liked to have seen a little more push-back and jump in the third period because the Panthers were all over them. During the second intermission, Brouwer said he would like to see the team be stronger in the neutral zone which they definitely were not.

Nonetheless, a win is a win. The Flames still won this game and got those two points they need to keep getting. They now move into the first wild-card spot. Is it bad that I actually want the Nashville Predators to win? But I mean, ONLY so the Flames stay in that second wild-card spot to potentially face the Minnesota Wild.
