The Calgary Flames played one of their best games on the road trip today with help from Johnny Gaudreau. They topped the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1.
The Calgary Flames played an excellent game against the Carolina Hurricanes to win 3-1. They’re 4-0-1 in their very successful road-trip to be in a much more comfortable spot than they were before this. They are now 9-2-1 in their last 12 games.
Micheal Ferland opened up the scoring in the second period for the Flames after they were trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. Ferland now has six goals in his last 12 games. Safe to say that he’s doing much better after being promoted to that top line alongside Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan.
Speaking of Johnny Gaudreau, he’s doing much better as of late. He had three points tonight along with two goals. He now has eight points in his last four games. This was also his first goal in 11 games.

The Flames now have the second highest amount of wins when trailing after one period of play with ten wins. They also have the second best percentage in the NHL when leading after two periods of play going 24-0-1.
Somebody who was also phenomenal tonight was Brian Elliott, who stopped 34 of 35 shots on goal. Elliott is now 7-1-1 since the game before the All-Star Break and in that 9-2-1 stretch for the Flames.
Oh, but let’s give credit where it’s due. Matt Stajan definitely made a good save as well.

Something else to note is the impact of Michael Stone who was just acquired by the Flames a few days ago. It may not seem like a lot, but I think the team has finally found someone to be that fourth defenceman to play with TJ Brodie. Stone has three points in his four games as a Flame. Brodie’s +/- was horrendous, but a lot of that has to do with his previous partner, Dennis Wideman. TJ Brodie was -27 up until three days ago, and now ever since being paired up with Stone, he’s -23. Of course, it’s still not ideal. But it’s working. And it shows this team is moving in a great direction.

All in all, this was a fantastic win for the team and an even better road-trip. The Flames should have all the confidence in the world right now.
