Calgary Flames Recover From Ugly Loss – Top the Dallas Stars
The Calgary Flames recover from their ugly loss against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday evening. They topped the Dallas Stars 3-1.
The Calgary Flames managed to get right back in the game with a 3-1 win over the Dallas Stars. They didn’t let the loss to the Boston Bruins, which spoiled their party, phase them tonight. Their 10-game win-streak came to an end when they lost to Boston. They would have hit a franchise record going 11 straight wins, which the 10 straight was last hit by the Atlanta Flames in 1978-1979 before they relocated to Calgary.
Michael Frolik opened up the scoring tonight with a nice feed from Mikael Backlund on his birthday. Fro now has 15+ goals in four straight seasons and Backs got his 28th assist on his 28th birthday. Truly iconic. The Flames were up 3-0 until late in the third and I hate to say it, but TJ Brodie had a giveaway in their own zone which led to a goal by the Stars. And i hate to say this even more, but Brodie semi-spoiled Brian Elliott‘s shutout.
It’s ok, I forgive you Brods.
But enough of that, let’s look at some positives tonight.
Calgary Flames
Brian Elliott
As always, Brian Elliott was incredible tonight. He got right back in it after missing the last game with a flue (I also have the flu, so we are one in the same, Moose).
Tonight marked Elliott’s 10th straight win which is also a personal career-high for him (woooo). His longest before this was a nine-game win streak which was last held by the goaltender in 2010. Wow, so the Flames and Brian Elliott are actually a good fit? Huh.
Elliott also stopped 24 of 25 shots, earning him the second star of the game.
Let’s talk about something else fun.
The rookie
We also have Matthew Tkachuk who had a goal and an assist tonight. Actually, the entire 3M + Mark Giordano and Dougie Hamilton were spectacular. They were all +3 tonight and all had at least one point. Gio with one goal and two assists, earning him the first star of the game.
But back to Matt.
He made an incredible move in the second period where, he knew the puck was knocked down with a high-stick. So he waited and waited until a Stars player touched it, then he attacked and got the puck to Gio which led to the Flames’ third goal of the night.
He definitely didn’t look like a rookie tonight. That was the move of an experience NHL player. Safe to say that he’s definitely matured a lot over the second half of the season.
He then in the third period took a hard puck to the neck and looked to be in pain. But he came right back to the bench just a couple minutes later with a nasty welt that’ll be an even bigger bruise tomorrow morning.
All in all, this was a great win and an even better way to come back from a loss. Hopefully this will start a new win-streak.

Oh, and the Flames are now 9-0-0 when Michael Stone‘s in the lineup. Nice.
