After a long and overdue process, Flames fans can rest easy now because the Calgary Flames have finally signed GM Brad Treliving to a multi-year contract extension. Let’s see how fans on Twitter reacted to this signing.

We can all breathe easy, everyone. The Calgary Flames have finally signed GM Brad Treliving to a multi-year contract extension. This is definitely long overdue and fans can finally take a deep breath. Treliving has been with the Flames since the 2014-2015 season. The Flames have made the playoffs twice in those three years.

Before the 2014-2015 season, they hadn’t made the playoffs for six years. So safe to say that he made some good and smart choices. One that everyone talks about is the Dougie Hamilton trade, which of course is usually people’s first choice for his top move as the Flames GM.

We actually put out an article three days ago about how the Flames need to re-sign Treliving, and fast, and what do you know. He just got re-signed yesterday. So I mean, I’m not saying it’s because of us, but it’s because of us. So you’re welcome everybody.

There, we highlighted some of the moves he has mad, specifically some of the unspoken moves he has made. The ones people don’t talk about a lot, but what I feel like were some smart, yet quiet, options that got somewhat side-swept by the major choices. Like the Dougie Hamilton trade. That article can be found here.

But let’s talk about this signing. Under Treliving, the Flames are 125-103-18 in the past three seasons. Pretty good for a team who didn’t make playoffs in six years.

"“We are striving to create a level of continuity and stability, as all successful teams do,” said Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke. “Today’s announcement is another step forward for our organization on that path. Under Brad’s leadership, we have seen progress over the past three seasons and look forward to building on that growth in the coming years.”“Brad has done a good job in leading our club and has clearly earned this reward,” said Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation President Ken King. “We have great faith in our hockey operations structure and we look forward to continued and improved results.”"

Now, I personally am ecstatic about this. I’ve been waiting for this since I realized his contract was expiring at the end of this season back in January or February. The Calgary Flames are a great, young team with an immense amount of potential. And under the right GM who has a lot of experience and who has already made smart choices for this hockey club, their future looks extremely bright. I have high hopes for next season.

"“But we really think we’ve got something here. And you want to see that through.“I’ve always said it’s about the people for me. To continue with the group we have, upstairs and downstairs, that’s what gives you the most satisfaction – You get to keep working with the people you’re working with.“To win, you need a lot of things. But it starts with having the right type of people. And I think, up and down the organization, we have that, most importantly in that locker room and behind the bench.”"

Treliving, like us, also has a lot of faith in this hockey team. And he knows they have an extremely bright future.

Via Calgaryflames.com:

"“I think how the Calgary Flames are viewed right now,” said Treliving, “is as a team on the rise, a team that treats people the right way, that has a bunch of real good people who care and want to win. So I’m glad to has this over, done with, and now we can continue down the path we’re on.“There’s real reason for optimism. Because of what’s here, because of what’s coming. We’ve still got to do things. That’s by addition, certain tweaks and changes. I’ve said it before, often, but when we get there will largely be determined by the group that’s here, already in place.“That’s what gives me the most belief. They’re dialed into it. Actions speak louder than words, of course, but I think they’re hungry for more.“We can legitimately say we’re fighting for our seat at the table.”"

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’ve got chills.

Now, that the business side is done, we can focus on the fun stuff. Like Twitter!

Twitter Reacts

If you know me at all, you KNOW I’ve got to put in a ‘Twitter Reacts’ section in this. My ENTIRE Twitter timeline was optimistic about this signing. I didn’t see one negative reaction or one reaction that was against this move. Now, I don’t know if I’m just following all the right people or what not, but it was nice to see everyone on the same boat. Including us!

There were of course a lot more Tweets, but we’d be here all night if I posted them all.
