We have a trade to announce! The Calgary Flames have acquired goaltender Eddie Lack from the Carolina Hurricanes in a multi-player deal.

I already said this earlier today when news initially broke that Kris Versteeg was re-signing with the Calgary Flames, but bless the guys over at TSN. Bob McKenzie initially broke the news that the Flames acquired Eddie Lack from the Carolina Hurricanes.

With adding more depth to the Flames RW with Spencer Foo and re-signing Kris Versteeg, the only bit of house-keeping left was signing a backup goaltender. There was also talk that Chad Johnson could potentially make a comeback to the Flames, but looks like that’s not happening anymore.

It was briefly mentioned that a potential place for Lack would be Calgary, but nobody quite expected it to be this soon. Brad Treliving has been putting in work these last few weeks, hey?

A good thing about the Flames goaltending now is their heights. Both Lack and Mike Smith stand at 6’4″. Lack last season started 18 games where he went 8-7-3, posted a save percentage of .902 and GAA of 2.64. Not the best numbers, but not terrible for a backup.

Of course, nothing beats this moment:

Welcome to the C of Red, Eddie! You’ll like it much better than Vancouver.
