Calgary Flames Sign LW Tanner Glass to a Professional Tryout
As we get closer to the regular and even closer to training camp, teams will be signing more players on PTOs. And the Calgary Flames did that today.
It seems as though Brad Treliving is doing everything except for re-signing Sam Bennett. But earlier today, the Calgary Flames signed Tanner Glass to a PTO. I first caught wind of the news through Twitter, and then later different sources talked about it like Sportsnet. But we still have yet to hear an announcement from the Flames themselves about the matter.
People weren’t the most pleased with this decision, seeing how it doesn’t make sense in any way. But no fret, because he probably won’t be signed after all:
The Flames LW is quite full right now and they really don’t need to add more depth in that department right now. So it makes sense that they would just use him as an extra body during training camp, however after the whole Nicklas Grossmann situation last season, I’ve stopped getting my hopes up when it comes to the Flames.
Tanner Glass last season spent his time between the New York Rangers and their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Last season with the Rangers, he had just one goal and one assist in 11 games. The rest were down in the minors. Glass is known as more of an aggressive type player and isn’t afraid to block shots. It could be that the Flames are only trying to fill in a body for training camp, but they could very well be trying to fill in the void that Lance Bouma left when he was bought out, since he had a similar playing styling.
Glass has spent most of his career on the third/fourth line, so you don’t expect a whole lot of scoring from him. In 511 career games which is split between five teams (Rangers, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets), he has 24 goals, 69 points, and -51 for a +/- rating. But the most standout stat is his PIM. He has 639 PIM which means that he’s spend over 10 hours just sitting in the sinbin.

We won’t know for sure what will happen with Glass and the Calgary Flames. But if he’s the reason that the Flames don’t sign Jaromir Jagr, I’ll be mad.
