There’s only one more preseason game until the regular season starts. Let’s check out some news surrounding the Calgary Flames over the last day.

The Calgary Flames have just one last exhibition game tonight to somewhat turn their preseason around. They’ll be facing the Winnipeg Jets tonight in a game that may not mean anything on paper, but the players need a big win before the regular season starts next week – just four days away.

In their last game against the Vancouver Canucks, it wasn’t the best (they lost 3-1). And head coach Glen Gulutzan and the players too recognized their lack of competitiveness and lack of effort. Gulutzan wasn’t shy about letting the media know about their lack of push.

Not one guy – all the guys.”

However, after yesterday’s practice, let’s hope the guys got the message.

I thought today’s practice was fantastic for getting home at 2 (a.m.) and coming here. They worked. It’s a testament to the group’s character. But our message today was ‘Let’s get going.’ There’s no excuses. We need to up it a degree. We need to run those 10 extra yards. We did that today. We need guys to find their games, find their intensity and battle level, right way. Not one guy. All the guys.

The Flames haven’t released the projected lineups yet for today, but we can probably bet that it’ll look fairly similar to what it was on Thursday night. Maybe some kinks here and there on the bottom two lines or on the third defence pairing. We may be seeing a different player on that RW beside Sam Bennett, since Troy Brouwer is not exactly the best option. We may also see Mark Jankowski make the lineup tonight in the hopes of proving to the Flames that he deserves a spot on the opening night roster.

The Flames still need to make four player cuts after today’s game by Tuesday. We may be seeing those final cuts by tomorrow morning. Don’t worry, we’ll have that news for you when it’s announced. We’ve got you covered here at Flame for Thought.
