I’ll try to do this without yelling the entire time. The Calgary Flames have signed 45-year-old Jaromir Jagr to a one-year deal.
I haven’t stopped internally screaming in the last twenty minutes. After reports and rumours for the last few months, it’s finally true. The Calgary Flames have officially signed Jaromir Jagr to a one-year deal with $1 million in base salary with $1 million available in bonuses.
I’m sorry, I can’t stop yelling still.
Jagr already has a long, and I mean long, list of accomplishments.
.
We spoke about Jagr’s accomplishments before, when there were the initial rumours that he could potentially be coming to Calgary.
"Originally drafted at fifth overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1990, he’s played for eight different NHL teams, is a two-time Stanley Cup winner (both with the Penguins in 1990-91 and 91-92), is a five-time Art Ross Trophy winner, a three-time Ted Lindsay Award winner, a Masterton Trophy winner, a Hart Trophy winner, and has made the All-Star team eight times."
From Czech, he has one Olympic gold medal, two gold World Championships, one gold European Champions Cup, two World Championship bronze, one Olympic bronze, one World Juniors bronze, and one bronze World Cup.
The last few seasons, Jagr was playing with the Florida Panthers where he somewhat took a dip in points last season. But most people are attributing that to his linemates, so hopefully, that’s not something we’ll see here in Calgary. But even if we do, I don’t care. The Flames got Jaromir freaking Jagr. But it was always meant to be.
Reportedly, the St. Louis Blues also offered him a contract with a $1 million base salary. But he chose the Flames instead (*insert sunglasses emoji*). This will be Jagr’s first Canadian NHL club and his ninth team. There’s another NHL record that he could beat while he’s playing in Calgary.
Next: 3 days until the season starts: #3 Dion Phaneuf
Welcome to Calgary, Jagr! Hey, Travelling Jagrs, I heard you guys may be looking for another member…
