The Calgary Flames have said that Jaromir Jagr will decide when he’ll make his Flames debut. Let’s check out some more news.
Jaromir Jagr didn’t get into town until Wednesday, so he missed the season opener. He also missed all of training camp and preseason games, so he’s a little behind the other players. And he also hasn’t been practicing throughout the off-season because he didn’t even know if he would play for an NHL team again. The Calgary Flames have said that he’ll basically decide when he’ll play. Move over Glen Gulutzan, looks like there’s a new bench boss in town.
Fun fact: Jagr is only six months younger than Glen Gulutzan.
Jagr had his first practice with the Flames on Thursday and he said that he doesn’t know yet if he’ll be ready for Saturday. We’re hoping that Jagr will play in the home-opener on Saturday, that’ll definitely be a game to watch. But again, we basically won’t find out until tomorrow. However, he has been spending time on the Kris Versteeg and Sam Bennett line, something that people anticipated would happen. And after that loss in their season opener to the Edmonton Oilers, the Flames could use a legend like Jagr.

"“Of course I (like playing with young players),” Jagr said Wednesday when he was officially introduced by the Flames. “Anybody compared to my age is young guy, so last 20 years I’ve played with young guys. Last two years in Florida I played with Huberdeau and Barkov, combine their age and they’re still younger than me.”“Having a guy like Jaromir come in at this time of the season shows that we want to have the pieces in place to try to win and we don’t want to wait and we’re excited about the challenge ahead,” Versteeg said when the signing was first reported."
All I know is whether he plays in the home-opener or not, the cheers when Beasley announces #68 will be heard up north in Edmonton.
