The Calgary Flames play an early game today against the Philadelphia Flyers, a game where Matthew Tkachuk won’t participate in. More Flames new here.

It’s quite an early game for the Calgary Flames today (11am MT), but they’ll be at the Wells Fargo Center for their first matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers this season. Johnny Gaudreau‘s excited to be back to the team he grew up cheering for. In his career in five games against the Flyers, he has one goal and five assists.

He’s also on an eight-game point-streak right now where he has 14 points in those eight games. That’s the second longest active point-streak in the NHL after Anze Kopitar‘s 10-game point-streak right now. He’ll be looking to make it nine games and keep his third place spot in points among all skaters in the NHL.

Someone who won’t be in the lineup today will be Matthew Tkachuk. After the somewhat of a line brawl against the Detroit Red Wings late in the game on Wednesday, we saw Luke Witkowski and Matthew Tkachuk face suspensions.

Via Calgary Sun:

"“It is important to note that while neither the slash nor the ensuing shoves are enough to merit supplemental discipline on their own, it is the totality of Tkachuk’s actions combined with his repeat offender status that escalate this play to merit supplemental discipline,” the video says."

So basically, he got suspended for being Matthew Tkachuk. For more details on what happened, you can go here.

Tonight, the Calgary Flames will be facing against their goaltender from last season, Brian Elliott. And the Flames will have Mike Smith back. Which everyone’s happy to hear after he was out with an injury against the Red Wings.

Via Calgary Sun:

"“Obviously, you never want to come out of a game or miss a game because of an injury, but things happen throughout the season, and you don’t want it to affect the way you play or affect the team’s performance. So it was just better that I came out of that game and got things sorted out.“That was an instance where I didn’t want it to fester and make it into something more than it had to be. I’ve been through at times of my career where if you do let it get the best of you, you can extend the injury for a longer period of the time. I didn’t want that to be the case.”"
