Johnny Hockey™

Was there any surprise that Johnny Gaudreau would be our first star of the week? Gaudreau not only leads the Calgary Flames in points, but he’s third among all skaters in points with 29 in 19 games. The only two players ahead of him are the dynamic Bolts duo of Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov.

In the three games this week, Johnny had seven points and they were all multi-point games. This helped extend his point-streak to nine games – the longest active point streak in the NHL right now and the longest of his career. With his one goal in Saturday’s game and Monahan’s hat trick, their line (all our stars for this week) are one of the highest scoring lines in the entire league.

Via Calgary Flames:

"“If you look at the Giroux line in Philadelphia, you don’t have to look any further there, they’re a top line in the league,” head coach Glen Gulutzan used as a reference point for the trio’s new assignment. “I thought they did a very good job and (they’ve) been doing that for about 10 games, that whole line. Johnny, Mony and Ferly have really embraced the two-way hockey and it obviously hasn’t hurt their offence at all. “I think that all three of those guys have committed extra to knowing that they’re playing against the top guys and that they have to do a job and be better defensively and they’ll still get their looks.”"

It seems like even though Johnny Gaudreau is one of the best forwards in the entire league this season, there isn’t a whole lot of chatter surrounding him. But that’s alright. He’ll just continue to sneak his way up. After all, Jaromir Jagr even told him he could lead the league in points. And a legend is never wrong.

And there you have the three stars of the week! Fitting that it’s the members of the Calgary Flames top line. Do you think Johnny will continue to extend his point-streak and make our three stars next week too?
