Third Star

CALGARY, AB – DECEMBER 9: Garnet Hathaway
CALGARY, AB – DECEMBER 9: Garnet Hathaway /

Garnet Hathaway

I’ll be completely honest, when Garnet Hathaway first got called up from Stockton after Kris Versteeg was placed on IR, I didn’t think he would be getting a star of the week. And definitely not anytime soon. With Jaromir Jagr being day-to-day, he’s been taking that spot on the third line alongside Sam Bennett and Mark Jankowski and they’ve definitely been a force together.

In seven games this season with the Calgary Flames, he has four points. All four came this past week. He had a multi-point game on Saturday vs. the Vancouver Canucks where he had two assists in a 4-2 win over the Canucks. He also got the Flames their tying goal vs. the Montreal Canadiens which helped them to win their first game in four games. That goal also ended up being just his second goal in his career.

When Hathaway was initially recalled from Stockton, fans weren’t too pleased. A problem that was plaguing the Flames was their secondary scoring and having a player like Garnet Hathaway wasn’t going to quite fix that problem. But he’s been proving us all wrong and he along with his line have been one of the better lines this past week.

This past week, the only time he had under a CF% (5v5) was vs. the Leafs. In the last two games, he has one of the highest CF% on the team. In the last two games, he also led the Flames with high-danger chances with six vs. the Canucks and five vs. the Habs.

With four points in four games last week, a third of his total career points, he earns the second star of the week.
