MONTREAL, QC – DECEMBER 07: Sean Monahan
MONTREAL, QC – DECEMBER 07: Sean Monahan /

Sean Monahan

Sean Monahan continues to prove to be a number #1 centreman. He had four points this past week, including two goals in the win vs. the Habs where he had the game-winning goal in OT to help the Calgary Flames win for the first time in four games. He increased his already franchise-leading OT goals to nine and has 25 GWG. Those 25 GWG is tied with Lanny McDonald and Kent Nilsson for seventh in Flames franchise history. Monahan’s only 23 years old.

With those nine OT goals in 348 career games, Sean Monahan also became the fastest player in NHL history to reach nine OT goals. He has six game-winning goals so far this season which is tied for the league-lead. His career-high for GWG is eight and he’s definitely on pace to beat that this year. He’s basically the definition of clutch.

With 30 points in 30 games, he’s on pace for a point per game for the first time in his career. He’s also on pace to reach 40 goals for the first time in his young career. His career high in goals is 31 and he’s already more than halfway there in just 30 games.

With three goals and four points last week in four games, including an OT GWG, he earns the second star of the week.
