In the last week, the Calgary Flames have done quite a bit of stirring up on their roster. And they’ve got an important week ahead of them.
The first bit of Calgary Flames news was Freddie Hamilton being placed on waivers… again. He was placed on waivers earlier this season, he cleared, but he was never sent down. He’s since played a game, but the Flames felt like he wasn’t contributing anything (again) and they’ve put him on waivers (again). Well, as of a couple minutes ago, the Arizona Coyotes claimed Freddie.
And then there was one. But who’s going to watch over Dougie!?
With the recalling of Andrew Mangiapane after Michael Frolik has been placed on IR, it seems like the Flames are really trying to get things going. Will we be seeing more waivers in the near future? Potentially, if the Flames are still continuing in the same habits.

The Flames have also just recalled Marek Hrivik from the AHL. He’ll most likely not make it into the lineup tonight, but I’m always wrong about these things, so maybe I should have not even said anything. Aside from all this news, the Flames have an important week ahead of them.
With only two games, these are big games (like we keep saying). They’ll face two Pacific Division opponents, the LA Kings tonight and the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night. The Kings are quite a bit ahead of the Flames, with 53 points in 40 games. However, the Ducks can easily be caught up to. They have 46 points in 41 games while the Flames have 42 points in 39 games, and in two games less, the Flames have as many wins and ROW. So with two wins this week, including one over the Ducks, they could steal their spot.
Via Calgary Sun:
"“They’re going to be a huge two games,” Flames forward Garnet Hathaway said about the looming dates with the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks. “Right now, we’re just worried about L.A. They’re two big points we don’t want to leave on the table. We’re going to have to play a big, tough heavy game, and we’re going to have to battle in every zone to be successful.”“If you’re a blend team — and the last team we played (Chicago) they won two cups being a blend team — you need your heavy guys to be heavy and your skilled guys to be quick and score,” Gulutzan said. “So we’re not going to ask guys to come out of their element. We’re just going to ask guys to play in their element and play to their strengths.“They have to be at the top of their game if you play top teams in the league.”"
Let’s hope 2018 is a better one for this club than 2017 was.
