The Calgary Flames finally won a game and broke a six-game losing streak! Let’s check out some more news surrounding the team this morning.

We haven’t been able to say this for a couple of weeks but… you can PUT IT IN THE WIN COLUMN! The Calgary Flames finally managed to win a game and this one went to OT *cue the war flashbacks*.

The Flames, while on a six-game losing streak, lost four of them past regulation. So going to overtime again was a little nerve-racking. But credit to Sean Monahan who scored that OT goal which is his 10th career OT goal and continues to lead Flames franchise history in that category, when he notched his eighth OT goal.

But that’s not the only impressive feat…

You know, I always mention how Monahan is as clutch as they come, I didn’t think it was THIS incredible though. So far this season, Monahan has eight game-winning goals. This is the highest in the NHL and he just tied his career-high of GWG. He’s currently tied with Gary Roberts at sixth place in GWG in franchise history at 27.

Via Sportsnet:

"“When you’re out there with guys like Johnny (Gaudreau) and (Brodie) and you find yourself open, you’re going to get the puck,” said Monahan, whose 10 overtime goals in his four-plus seasons equals Alexander Ovechkin. “The goalie had my number all night so I was happy to put one by him.”"

Today is also SuperBowl Sunday! Johnny Gaudreau, even though he’s played in Boston and was surrounded by Pats fans a lot, he’s from New Jersey, but quite close to Philly, so he’s got a lot of hope in the Eagles tonight. Maybe a bet or two riding on this.

Gaudreau yesterday scored a goal and broke a six-game goalless drought. Monahan, who couldn’t beat Jeff Glass at all during regulation, no matter how many chances he had, is rooting for the Patriots. But then Monahan scored the overtime goal. So if you’re a betting man, I’d say the odds are about 50-50 right now.
