Calgary Flames Injury Updates: Monahan and Versteeg out for season
With players somewhat playing through injuries, the Calgary Flames will not be making the playoffs, so those players can finally rest.
While the Calgary Flames haven’t been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention yet, they’re basically done. They’re way too behind to catch up to anyone and everyone knows their season is done. Kris Versteeg came back for just one game after missing 49, then missed the next few games. Head coach Glen Gulutzan claimed it wasn’t injury related, but it turns out, it is.
He somewhat rushed back and will now have to nurse his injury some more. Sean Monahan has had the most significant injuries that he’s been playing through.
He has some lingering hip injury and has a wrist injury that he’ll need surgery for. Which is why the Flames decided to keep these two out of the lineup for the rest of the season. Since their season is done, there’s not point in playing them and potentially worsening their injuries.
Via Calgary Sun:
“Sean has been battling through two injuries over the past month and it has reached a stage where it must be addressed,” said Flames general manager Brad Treliving in a statement.“Playing through one injury, let alone two, he’s a tough guy,” said Johnny Gaudreau, the other half of Calgary’s dynamic forward duo. “As you could see, it was starting to wear on him a bit, with how bad they were. So hopefully he gets some rest and gets them fixed up and see what happens from there.”
Currently, Matthew Tkachuk and TJ Brodie are also still day-to-day as they also nurse injuries, but those aren’t specified.
Next: Trading for a first-round pick, injury updates
It may somewhat come as a blessing that the Calgary Flames won’t make the playoffs. That way, we won’t have Monahan try and fight through these injuries, or Versteeg to rush back again, or Tkachuk to play through his and cause more damage.
