It’s time for another Calgary Flames prospect update! Let’s check out how centerman Dillon Dube did this season.

Dillon Dube had quite the busy year. First, he participated at the World Junior Summer Showcase for Team Canada in the summer. Following that, he was at training camp with the Calgary Flames and playing in some pre-season games hoping to make the final roster, but unfortunately didn’t make the cut, so he went back to play for the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL.

In December, he was named captain for Team Canada at the World Juniors. He missed the first game of the pre-tournament, played in the second game where he had two goals and an assist in Canada’s dominating 8-1 victory over Switzerland, then was named captain the following day.

During the pre-tournament, head coach Dominique Ducharme loved the way he played and liked how well he gelled with the other top guys on the team.

"“He was himself – speed, skill,” coach Dominique Ducharme said. “We can see that even though it was his first game with (Jordan) Kyrou and (Sam) Steel, (in) the days in practice we could see the chemistry building. It’s really positive. It can only keep going.”“He’s fast. He’s smart,” Kryou said. “He fits in well everywhere.”“I just settled in a little bit there,” Dube said. “It’s nice playing with those guys. They’re giving me chances to feel comfortable out there. We really clicked well. It made me feel a lot better. It was great playing with them.”"

At the tournament, Dube had three goals and five points in seven games. In the gold medal game, he opened up the scoring in the second period, had five shots, and played 20:30 minutes of ice-time. Oh yeah, and he won a gold medal. That’s pretty cool I guess.

Continuing his season with the Rockets as an alternate captain in what was most likely his final junior season, he put up 38 goals and 84 points in 53 games – two career-highs for him. Dube’s 1.58 points/game tied him for ninth among all skaters in the WHL, tying with fellow Calgary Flames prospect, Matthew Phillips.

The Rockets made the playoffs but were unfortunately swept by the Tri-City Americans in the first round. Dube had two goals in the four games. Since his season was cut short, he was able to finish off the year playing for the Stockton Heat and playing in his first regular season pro game. He played in one post-season game for the Heat the season prior.

In six games with the Heat, while he didn’t record any goals, he finished with four assists. He’ll most likely find himself with a full-time position with the Stockton Heat next season and may even play his first NHL game, but only time will tell for that.
