Today was a slow day for Calgary Flames members at the World Championship. Let’s still check out how today went down.

Today was quite slow for the four Calgary Flames members at the World Championship, but we’ll still talk about. What can we say, it’s the off-season for us. It’s slow.

Out of the four members at the tournament, only one (sort of) was in action today. David Rittich was the lone Flame playing today, but he didn’t even play. He served as a backup to Pavel Francouz who got the nod in Czech’s 5-4 shootout win over Team Switzerland.

Rittich played his first game at the tournament in Sunday’s 3-2 loss to the Swedes and played in his first ever World Championship game. All the details for that can be found here.

The Czech’s next game will be on Thursday as they take on the first place Group A team, Team Russia.

After today’s games, we have some shuffling happening with the standings. With Finland’s dominating 7-0 victory over Norway, they now move to atop the Group B standings with nine points in three games which means they bumped USA and Canada down. Latvia also moved up in Group B with their 5-0 win over the Koreans and now sit in fourth place with five points in three games. Slovakia moved up to fifth place in Group A with their 5-2 win over the Austrians.

Tomorrow will be another slightly slow day for Calgary Flames players at the World Championship with the lone member being Mikael Backlund captaining Team Sweden. Thursday will be a bit of a busier day with Johnny Gaudreau for Team USA, Bill Peters for Team Canada, and David Rittich for Team Czech all in action.

I’m still waiting on the day when all four will play at once and fill the void of no Flames hockey for a while.
